Teacher's Day History & Significance, Teachers' Day 2022 What Makes It Special? Throughout his whole life, Radhakrishnan remained a teacher despite all of his accomplishments and contributions. Teachers' Day is observed to pay tribute to the first vice president of India and to recognise the value of teachers in our lives.

Why is it celebrated on September 5?: In honour of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's efforts and accomplishments, India observes National Teachers' Day on the anniversary of his birth Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was born on September 5, 1888, was not only the President of India but also a Teacher, Philosopher, and holder of the Bharat Ratna award.

Radhakrishnan, who was raised in a low-income Telugu Brahmin household, received scholarships for all of his studies. He wrote the 1917 book "The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore" and held a master's degree in philosophy. In addition, he succeeded Madan Mohan Malviya as Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1939 and served as Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 1936.

Later, he became a professor at Calcutta University and Presidency College in Chennai. He received the Bharat Ratna in 1931, which became the highest civilian honour in India in 1954. In 1963, he was admitted to the British Royal Order of Merit as an honorary member.

Dr. Radhakrishnan was a recognized teacher to students during his lifetime as well as a deserving student. His students reportedly approached him in 1962, while he was the second President of India, to ask permission to observe September 5 as a special day in honour of him. Dr. Radhakrishnan responded to this by proposing that September 5 be observed as Teachers' Day in order to recognise the contribution that teachers make to society.

Five Greatest Teacher In Indian History

Chanakya

A well-known Indian teacher who lived in the fourth century was also known as Vishnugupta and Kautilya. He served King Chandragupta Maurya in the honourable capacities of a philosopher, jurist, and royal counsellor. He published two novels, Arthashastra and Chanakya Niti. Both of his books are a compilation of his expertise, supported by a wealth of his own experiences that he wished to impart to readers.


Vivekananda Swami
