Anushka Sharma, a Bollywood actress, and her cricketer husband Virat Kohli recently purchased an eight-acre plot of land in Alibaug, a coastal community south of Mumbai.
According to the Economic Times, the power couple bought the house in two different transactions. Additionally, it was disclosed that the 2.54-acre and 4.91-acre land lots cost them about Rs 19.24 crore.
The couple apparently visited the area six months ago, and Vikas Kohli, Virat's brother, reportedly concluded the purchase on August 30. Many business people have bought real estate in the Alibaug area because of the area's surroundings. Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri constructed home in Alibaug almost ten years ago.
Additionally, there were rumors that Kohli rented a portion of Kishore Kumar's Juhu bungalow for the ensuing five years with the intention of building a restaurant there. In the past, Kohli has owned One Eight Community restaurants in Delhi, Kolkata, and Pune. The third location will soon open in Juhu.
Interestingly, Alibaug is well-known among Mumbai's wealthy as a beachside resort and has become the new hotspot for celebrities and high-profile figures including industrialists, Bollywood stars, and cricketers.
According to the media source, which quoted the obtained paperwork, both Virat and Anushka paid Rs 1.15 core in stamp duty for the signing of the agreement, which was registered on Thursday. The agreement was formalized on August 30.
The power couple's land purchase in Alibaug's Zirad hamlet was finalized by Vikas Kohli, Virat's brother. Real estate developer Sameera Habitats sold the land tract to Virat and Anushka, who intend to erect a farmhouse there.
The pair reportedly visited and inspected the property about six months ago, but Virat was unable to come to close the sale because of his busy schedule. Virat Kohli is currently in Dubai for the Asia Cup cricket competition.
Former cricketer, national coach, and pundit Ravi Shastri also constructed a home in Alibaug roughly ten years ago.
According to statistics from industry experts Anarock Property Consultants, homebuyers in India have recently flocked to the market for luxury properties as sales of these residential units, which cost over Rs 1.5 crore, have increased dramatically since before the epidemic.
Over 13,670 units of luxury homes were sold in the Mumbai Metro Region (MMR) in the first half of 2022, followed by 4,160 units in the National Capital Region (NCR). MMR's proportion of luxury housing sales jumped from 13% in 2019 to 25% in H1 2022, while the share of premium apartments in NCR increased to 12% from 4% throughout the same time period.
About 25,680 luxury units were sold during the year's first half, from January to June 2022, as opposed to 17,740 throughout the entire year of 2019. For comparison, luxury property sales in 2021 increased after the second COVID wave but still stayed at 21,700, which is 18.3% less than the first half of 2022.
"After the pandemic, Indian luxury housing has done astonishingly well, with overall sales climbing sharply throughout the top 7 cities. According to the most recent ANAROCK Research data, in H1 2022, these cities sold roughly 1.84 lakh units, of which 14% were luxury residences. In contrast, only 7% of the 2.61 lakh units sold overall in 2019 were in the luxury category," the Anarock analysts stated.
